Anglican Prayer Bead Workshop October 5th

prayer-beads.jpgAnglican prayer bead sets offer a tactile way of facilitating prayer. St. Paul’s, Ivy is holding an Anglican Prayer bead workshop on Sunday, October 5 from 1-4 p.m. It will be an intergenerational event - all ages are welcome!

The leader will be Connie Chintall, of CMC Creations, Inc. (www.hartfullofprayers.com ).  She will have a variety of beads available so people can choose what they like. The fee of $25 will include art glass and pewter beads, handouts and a booklet on how to use the beads and prayers. Connie will also offer stone beads at an additional cost of $35.

St. Paul’s Habitat House with Region XV: Next Work Day September 20th

logo.JPGSt. Paul’s, Ivy is taking a leading role in building a Habitat House with Region XV of the Diocese of Virginia.  We began work on August 2, 2008, with a short blessing ceremony.  Beginning in September our parish will work only once every four Saturdays - a much smaller commitment than we have had on previous houses.  The other work days will be filled by Region XV and our building partner (as yet unknown).

The house, which will be a duplex, will be built on Paton Street over about nine months, for the Hassan and Khawa families. We hope to complete the work in about 9 months.

Steve Thornton is acting as the volunteer coordinator for this project.  We are looking for someone to coordinate food for workers, probably only once every three months. We will need to provide 5-7 volunteers each workday, those with construction experience and those just willing to help.  No one under age 16 can be on the jobsite when power tools are in use.  Please contact Steve  or the church office (spivyva@aol.com) if you have questions, would like to volunteer as our food coordinator or to volunteer for any work day.

Click here for a map/directions to the worksite.

Below find links to the waiver form for minors and the form all workers must sign before beginning work.

Caregiving Course Begins September 25th

Brush up on your caregiving skills by attending a six-week course given by the Rev. Mary Beth Wells, M.A., M. Ed., M. Theology.  The course will meet on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., beginning September 25th.

There is a perpetual need to care for others, especially our aging population, and most of us are called on to serve as caregivers at some time in our lives.  Caregivers deal with complex human emotions and needs that may stir up a myriad of feelings - sometimes warm and rewarding and at other times painful and distressing.  Ms. Wells has designed this course to develop awareness of caregiving gifts. It will provide insights, understanding, guidance and lead to greater self-understanding.
