Habitat Work Day December 13th

logo.JPGSt. Paul’s, Ivy Habitat Work Days:
Saturday, December 13.

Saturday work hours are: 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with lunch from 12 to 12:30.

St. Paul’s, Ivy is taking a leading role in building a Habitat House with Region XV of the Diocese of Virginia.  We began work on August 2, 2008, with a short blessing ceremony.  Beginning in September our parish will work only once every four Saturdays - a much smaller commitment than we have had on previous houses.  The other work days will be filled by Region XV and our building partners, a local realty company and the Smith Foundation.

The house, which is a duplex, is being built on Paton Street over about nine months, for the Hassan and Khawa families. We hope to complete the work in about 9 months.

Steve Thorntonis acting as the volunteer coordinator for this project.  We will need to provide 5-7 volunteers each workday, those with construction experience and those just willing to help.  No one under age 16 can be on the jobsite when power tools are in use.  Please contact Steve  or the church office (spivyva@aol.com) if you have questions, would like to volunteer as our food coordinator or to volunteer for any work day.

Click here for a map/directions to the worksite.  The easiest way to reach the Paton Street worksite is to go on Cherry Avenue, turn onto Hanover Street, and then turn left on Nunley Street. You will see the unfinished houses at the bottom of the road. Bring plenty of drinking water with you!

Below find links to the waiver form for minors and the form all workers must sign before beginning work.

The Women’s Bible Study began a study entitled Discovering the Bible on September 16th.  The first half, (approximately 15 weeks) is devoted to an overview of the Old Testament and the second half will focus on the New Testament.  This Kerygma program is designed for beginning students of the Bible but all are welcome regardless of Biblical background.  Child care will be provided.  New students are welcome at any time - please feel free to drop in! The class is held on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  Contact the Rev. Shelby Owen at spivyowen@aol.com for more information.
