Journey to Adulthood and Rite 13

J2A Pilgrimage 2007 7.jpgThis is our third year using the Journey to Adulthood/Rite 13 program. Currently our Rite 13 class includes our 7th and 8th graders and our J2A includes our 9th and 10th graders. The curriculum involves lessons centering around self, society, sexuality and spirituality. The premise of the Rite 13 curriculum is that manhood and womanhood are gifts from God but that adulthood is earned. The focus in high school is to further develop this concept and to provide decision-making tools that the youth use as they approach adulthood and assert their independence. Our goal is to provide for them a safe, caring community of support as we celebrate and participate in their journey.  The 2008 Rite 13 ceremony took place as part of the Sunday liturgy on April 20.
