Summer Book Club

Join The Rev. Sarah Kinney Gaventa for our Summer Book Club! We will meet in the Parish Hall on Wednesdays, June 5-July 17 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. to discuss Brené Brown’s Daring Greatly. From the book’s description: “Researcher and thought leader Dr. Brené Brown offers a powerful new vision that encourages us to dare greatly: to embrace vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously engage in our lives.” If you would like the church to order a book for you, please contact Debbie Scott. Support AIM with Nickels for Non-Profits

The Nickels for Nonprofits program at Whole Foods will benefit AIM (Alliance for Interfaith Ministries) throughout the month of May. Simply shop with grocery bags of your own and receive wooden nickels at the cash register for each bag used. At the exits, there are receptacles into which you can drop the wooden nickels. Please choose AIM! At the end of the month, AIM will receive a check with the equivalent amount donated. Be sure to tell your friends, neighbors, and relatives about this easy way to support AIM!

Celebrate with 175 Acts of Kindness

This year, St. Paul’s Ivy joyfully celebrates 175 years of worship, ministry and service. We look forward to celebrating with many events in the coming months. We have invited past clergy to visit, teach and worship with us during the month of April. It will be a pleasure to reflect and appreciate the history and strong foundation of our church.

In place of the annual parish picnic this Spring, we will have a 175th Birthday Party Picnic on June 2nd following the 10:30 service. There will still be fried chicken and much fellowship as we celebrate this grand occasion!

Throughout the year we look to achieve 175 acts of goodness for St. Paul’s Ivy church, our community and beyond to mark this very special year. Please look for a sign up here and in the Parish Hall to be a part of this effort.

The church’s history is being documented, and the children and youth of St. Paul’s Ivy will play an active role in commemorating our anniversary. The celebrations will continue with a Family BBQ in the Fall.

It is a tremendous time to remember the past, celebrate the present and focus on the bright future of St. Paul’s Ivy!

Yarn Donations Wanted for Nzali Knitters

Your remnants of medium worsted weight yarn in all colors would be most appreciated by those knitting scarves as gifts for the teachers, translators, Carpenter’s Kids committee, and village elders in Nzali, Tanzania. Please bring yarn donations to the church office. Completed scarves and hats will be blessed on June 9 at the 10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist.

School Supplies for Nzali Primary

We are looking for donations of school supplies to be used by the Mission Partners who are teaching in the Nzali Primary School in July. We would be very grateful for the following: crayons, colored pencils, number 2 pencils, watercolors, markers, lined paper, white chalk, glue sticks, tape (masking, duct, scotch), crepe paper rolls in a variety of colors, large Ziploc bags, 3” or 4” plastic balls. Please place donated school supplies in the box labeled Nzali Mission Trip in the Parish Hall, or bring supplies to the Parish Office.

Do you know the origins of the tin man on the playground? How about the bench outside the restrooms in Neve Hall? Stay tuned for these answers and more at our Parish Picnic on June 2nd!

In the meantime, we need your help! If you know any interesting trivia about St Paul’s, Ivy — maybe something about the bell tower, the stained glass windows, what is hanging on the walls in Neve Hall, the cemetery, the organ — anything that we can include on a scavenger hunt tour of our church and grounds, please send your contributions to Peggy Williams by May 15.
