Lenten Devotional: March 13
“For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you or rather that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.” Romans 1:11-12
Words seem to be my constant companions – especially right-on-the-mark comments, at the ready – needed or not. Listening deeply, patiently, attending to other believers’ thoughts – how uplifted I am when I actually practice those skills. But exchanging words might not be the only, or most important form of communication.
Paul’s heartfelt declaration at first sounds like he might have just the perfect, spot-on words needed to build up these believers. But the next part of his statement says this to me: mutual uplift blooms when believers meet together, come to know, support and care about each other. Who knows how much we mean to each other?
