From the Rector Search Committee

Thursday, August 16, 2018

The Search Committee has now had the opportunity to visit with all three final candidates and to attend worship services where each has preached and led worship. After completion of the candidate visits to St. Paul’s, the committee hopes to make a recommendation to the Vestry before the end of August. As the next step of the discernment process, the Vestry and final candidate will meet together. Afterwards, the Vestry will make the decision whether or not to issue a call.

The Search Committee has narrowed the field to three final candidates at this point. One site visit has occurred and observation of the other two will occur this month. We will be hosting candidates in town in August with hopes of making a call for vestry review before summer’s end. We are excited about the final candidates and the many gifts they could bring to our parish. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this critical phase of the search process.

A quick update from the St. Paul’s, Ivy Search Committee: We have had an extraordinarily productive week, conducting six successful interviews. We have had great conversations with candidates and are excited about this pivotal stage in the process. The next step, which is already underway, is narrowing this short list to just a few candidates for site visits. Just a reminder that we cannot discuss candidates in any detail, and appreciate your respect for the need for complete confidentiality. Thank you for your support and we will continue to keep you updated throughout the end of this process.

From the Wardens

The Vestry is deeply grateful for the fine work and dedication of our Rector Search Committee.  We are happy to report that following a careful review of all candidates in an impressive pool of applicants, the Search Committee is now proceeding with initial interviews.  In the next few weeks, the committee expects to begin on-site visits and face-to-face interviews with selected candidates. Last week, we accepted with regret the resignation of Search Committee Chair, Bob Wilcox, who stepped down from the committee for personal reasons.  We are thankful for his leadership and service over the past months.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Hill and Andrew Rome as the new Co-Chairs of the Search Committee.  We have the utmost faith and confidence in these two exemplary individuals and the other members of our excellent Search Committee:  Elizabeth Bunin, Valerie Cole, Pam Edmonds, Eric Greenbaum, and Bruce Sullivan.

As in all Rector search processes, the Search Committee maintains a sacred commitment to confidentiality.  The members of the committee are duty-bound to protect the privacy of all candidates.   We continue to hold in our prayers the members of the Search Committee and all of the candidates and their families throughout this discernment process.

The position opening for Rector of St. Paul’s, Ivy has now been posted widely; on the diocesan website, in the Office of Transition Ministry of the Episcopal Church, and other sites including the Episcopal Digital Network and the Transition Ministry Conference. Prospective candidates will find initial information about our Parish by viewing our website and in the Community Ministry Portfolio (CMP) which is available to all clergy in the Episcopal Church through the Office of Transition Ministry. The CMP has data about our parish and brief descriptions of how we view ourselves and our role in the community and the world. Our responses to the questions in the CMP relied heavily on what we learned from you in the focus groups and individual interviews conducted by the Search Committee.

May 2018

St. Paul’s, Ivy is a vibrant parish located in the beautiful western suburbs of Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia.

St. Paul’s is characterized by a superb combination of thoughtful and well-executed liturgies, joyful outreach to the community and the world, attention to those within the parish in need of care, and a passion for formation of children, youth, and adults.  Our friendly congregation includes active parishioners across the generations. The campus is lovely; a recent capital campaign and building project completed renovations to an adjacent historic house that serves as offices for the Parish Staff. Our parishioners offer a wide-range of gifts, experience and generosity of spirit. We are looking for an emotionally intelligent priest, with excellent people-skills, a non-polarizing leadership style, and a heart for pastoral care. Strong management, preaching and teaching skills a plus!

The Community Ministry Portfolio is available to clergy on otmportfolio.org. Interested candidates should apply by May 31, with a cover letter, resume and OTM Portfolio to rectorsearch.spiv@gmail.com

The Community Ministry Portfolio is also available here as a pdf.
