Thanksgiving Baskets
Our Outreach Monthly Food Pantry is an ongoing monthly effort to help and support approximately 25 families from the Western Albemarle area. In addition to food, health, cleaning and household supplies, parishioners provide a little happiness during the holidays.
At Thanksgiving, each of our Outreach families, as well as others in need in the Western Albemarle area, are given food supplies for Thanksgiving dinner. Shopping bags are labeled with family sizes and a grocery list and distributed to eager volunteers. These are filled by parishioners with all the makings of a Thanksgiving feast for a local family. Outreach funds provide the turkeys, with the help of the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank.
You Can Help
Beginning in early November each year, parishioners are asked to take a bag to fill with food for a Thanksgiving dinner for a local family in need. We also gratefully accept donations to offset the cost of turkeys (mark checks “holiday food”). If you are interested in providing help with Thanksgiving food in the wider community, the Salvation Army serves Thanksgiving Dinner to many that cannot provide for themselves.
