Transitions

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose ordained leadership for this parish that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Update: December 30
We are blessed to have four excellent finalists, including two women and two men. All have visited us in Charlottesville, and one is scheduled for a return visit in January. Members of our committee have visited two of the candidates in their home parishes, and two more such visits (to Alabama and Texas) are scheduled in January.

Our target is to recommend one of these candidates to the Vestry at its regularly scheduled meeting on February 14. Assuming acceptance of that recommendation, and successful negotiations with the candidate thereafter, we expect that our new rector could join us in late March or early April.

Our four finalists are wonderful people, guided by the Holy Spirit to do God’s work. Any one of them could excel as the “preacher, teacher, leader and friend” that we describe in our Parish Profile. As a committee we are privileged to have spent quality time with them and the many other fine candidates that we have met in the past weeks and months. We ask for your continuing prayers to help guide us in the important final stages of this discernment process.

Update: November 19
We have reduced our list of candidates to seven active prospects and as previously reported in our regular website and bulletin updates, are quite excited about the quality and diversity of these candidates. All except one have visited Charlottesville to meet with us, with the final local visit scheduled for late November. In December we will further reduce the pool and make visits to selected finalists in their own parishes. Holiday time presssures will likely cause these visits to lag over into the new year, but our hope is that we will have a final recommendation to make to the vestry by the end of January.
