Alice Layman
Organist and Choir Director
Alice has been the Choir Director and Organist at St. Paul’s, Ivy since 2000. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists (Dean, Charlottesville Chapter, 2007-2008) and of the Choral Directors Association. Alice graduated from Hollins College in 1974 with a major in music (organ performance); she studied organ there with Dr. James Leland. In 1977, she received a Masters of Music degree (organ performance) from the University of Kentucky; her teacher was Dr. Arnold Blackburn. Subsequently, she studied with Bruce Stevens and Richard McPherson. Alice has taught music in the St. Anne’s Belfield Lower School in Charlottesville since 1992.

James Sivley
Associate Organist/Choir Director
Our Associate Organist/Choir Director attended James Madison University where he studied with George Hicks and Dr. Richard McPherson. His other teachers included Jeryl Powell, Bruce Stevens and Dr. Elizabeth Melcher. He is married to Joanna Dickson Sivley and has a daughter Kelley, a student at Burley Middle School. He is also employed as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Virginia Health System.

Bonna Lewis
Office Manager
Bonna and her family have been parishioners at St. Paul’s, Ivy since 1995. Bonna, a Randolph-Macon College graduate, began volunteering in the church office in 1999.

Molly Crowell
Office Assistant
Molly and her family have been parishoners at St. Paul’s, Ivy since 1993. Molly, a graduate of the University of the Pacific, is the mother of two daughters. She is a member of the Altar Guild, and was instrumental in organizing the first dinner groups. She also designed and planted the gardens of Kirklea while pursuing her Master Gardener’s certification.

Debbie Scott
Formation Leader
Debbie Scott works with children’s education through sixth grade, the spiritual growth committee, Centering Prayer, EFM, and the Celtic Eucharist. She and her husband David and their 2 children, Justin and Sarah, came to St. Paul’s, Ivy in July 1993. Debbie is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and earned a M.S. in English education from Old Dominion University. She is an EFM mentor and serves as a Diocesan Spiritual Discernment Facilitator.

Robert H. Pate, Jr.
Senior Warden
Bob and his wife, Ellen, began worshiping regularly at St. Paul’s Ivy in 2003 and were confirmed with the Spring 2005 class. Their two adult children, Hew and Mary Ellen Barton, live in Lafayette, CA and Richmond respectively, and each have two teen age daughters. Bob retired from the University of Virginia faculty in 2008 after a 40 year career teaching in the Counselor Education Program at the Curry School of Education. Bob is a Year Four member of the Tuesday morning EfM class and serves as a food pantry unpacker. He also volunteers at the Habitat for Humanity Store weekly and is a member of a downtown Soup Kitchen team.
