Caring Committee
The Caring Committee of St. Paul’s, Ivy provides an active and intergenerational ministry for our church. The committee serves two functions. One group of our members ”adopts” a person to visit for the entire year. The adopted persons are shut-ins or individuals in a nursing facility who are long-standing members of our church or are family members of parish families. The second committee group visits persons who are ill or with special needs in our congregation.
The Caring Committee members who adopt individuals visit that person at least once a month during the year. Upon request they offer rides to church or help with errands. There are 2 persons who are currently adopted.
The second Caring Committee group visits, delivers altar flowers, and/or sends cards to members of our congregation who are ill or hospitalized. At least two committee persons serve in this capacity each month.
As the rectors and church office are notified of those in need of this gentle ministry, they advise the Caring Committee members. Cards of sympathy are sent as needed. The elderly or ill whom we visit are always thrilled at being remembered. Our Caring Committee volunteers always know that they receive far more than they give.
The children of the Sunday school create special items for delivery or mailing to those we visit. During the Spring 2008 Sunday School rotation our parish children made bread for our adopted persons. Their contributions are always gratefully received by those visited, and these efforts are very much appreciated by our Caring Committee members.
