Service of Healing Prayer
Offered on the last Sunday every month following the 10:30 a.m. service
Healing Prayer is also offered at the rear of the church during Celtic Eucharist
One of the greatest gifts we have in our Christian life is the gift of prayer. Praying for ourselves and others in need of healing is one important way we can reach out to God for help when we or those we know are in pain or distress, suffering from illness or injury. Healing prayers can include requests for physical, mental, spiritual and emotional healing. When we pray we simply lay before God that which concerns us; asking other people to pray for us allows them to be God’s vessels but it is God alone who does the healing, in his own way, in his own time. Even when the precise outcome is uncertain, we can be sure that God hears our prayer and acts. The laying on of hands for healing is an ancient practice that goes back to the early church. If we look at the Gospels, we see that Jesus healed people through a variety of means, sometimes from a great distance and at other times through the laying on of hands. We, too, can pray for people from afar, or pray with them. There are opportunities for the laying on of hands and anointing following the 10:30 a.m. service on the last Sunday of the month in the front of the church. There will be a short liturgy followed by individual prayers. All are invited to come for prayers for themselves or on behalf of others. Please contact Debbie Scott of the Spiritual Growth Committee at spivyscott@aol.com if you have questions.
After the 10:30 service, the Rev. Liles will lead the Healing Prayer service. Please join the Healing Prayer group at the altar to pray for yourself or others. You may also use the Healing Prayer request form found in your bulletin or on the usher’s table at the back of the church. Simply place the prayer request in the basket as you proceed to the communion rail. Prayer requests will be kept by the Rector and prayed for throughout the month following.
