Dr. Elizabeth Joyner

Continuing the discussion of Bach’s spirituality through reading Cantatas, Sunday’s formation will center on Bach’s role as a composer within the 18th century Lutheran Church in Germany. Included will be a short lesson on the Passions, as well as the relevance of other major vocal works by Bach and his contemporaries.

Dr. Elizabeth Joyner studied Bach’s vocal works and the Mendelssohnian revival in Leipzig, Germany as a Fulbright Scholar before returning to Duke University to complete her PhD in musicology. She performs actively with several regional Baroque ensembles and teaches piano and voice to students of all ages.
