Lenten Devotion: Monday, March 23
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
The Blessing of Jacob upon his children, each representing one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, was a father looking to the future of his children and seeing all that they were and all that they would become. He names each son, seeing strengths and gifts, disposition and tendency.
Do we not see that potential and hindrance in our own children? Do we not bestow our blessings of encouragement, support, guidance, and hope upon each, no matter how old they become? Remember the words of your own parents, instructing and leading you into Life.
God has blessed each of us with Gifts of the Spirit. Some are obvious, others subtle, but all known completely by our Heavenly Father. And each of us, like all children, has a connection to the Divine as a unique Soul. Our Blessing is our own set of distinctive talents and abilities, challenges and covenants that shape and direct us throughout our life. God does not ask more of us than he has already given to us to help us bear.
This Lenten Season, discover your special Self, your Blessed Soul, as you move through prayer and reflection. God has been, is, and ever will be with us in all things. Such is the Promise, the Blessing of Christ. Be in Gratitude, be with Hope, and be at Peace.
