Lenten Devotion: Tuesday, March 3
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
The kingdom of God is at hand! So when Jesus asked Simon, Andrew and the sons of Zebedee to follow Him, they followed without question. What a marvelous show of faith and commitment! How easy it is for us not to listen when we hear the call to help the church in some way. We hesitate and make excuses. “I’m so busy. That’s just not possible for me to give an hour or two to help out with Sunday Coffee Hour or sign up for helping during PACEM week.” Where is our commitment and love? Only if we could be eager to follow our own small voice that says, “You should do this, it’s just a simple way to show how much you appreciate the many blessings God has given you.”
Dear Lord, in this season of reflection, please help us to live our faith and give of ourselves. Amen.
