This year, we’re rolling out a new program to help local children have what they need to start the school year off right! Parishioner and retired teacher, Janet Boyd, has been in conversation with local public schools to see how we can best help those in need. Henley Middle School and Western Albemarle High School have both requested specific items they’d like to have on hand for these students as need arises. Items can be brought with you to church each Sunday now through August 14th.

Here’s how you can help:

Henley Middle School needs backpacks with laptop sections in solid, neutral colors like blue, black, grey, etc. They have also requested reusable water bottles, preferably with hooks or other ways to attach them to backpacks.

Western Albemarle High School needs school supplies of all sorts and kinds for their school supply closet, where students can go for items they need throughout the year. Pens, pencils, highlighters, notebook paper, notebooks, composition books, binders and dividers, pocket folders, index cards, Sharpies, hand-held pencil sharpeners, earbuds, flash drives, post-it notes and composition books are all needed.

Donations will be accepted each Sunday, July 24 through August 14, from 8:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Collection baskets will be in the back of the church where all items can be placed. Everything donated will get blessed along with our own backpacks, laptop bags, and briefcases on Sunday, August 21 at our annual Blessing of the Backpacks at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Then, on Sunday, August 21, be sure to come to church with your backpacks, laptop bags, and briefcases when all will be blessed for the upcoming school and work year at our annual Blessing of the Backpacks.
